SEP is the UK’s leading venture capital firm focused on investment for innovative and emerging growth companies, helping them to exploit their full market opportunities and long-term value. Our history goes back to 1991 and since then we have invested in over 150 companies, resulting in numerous high value exits and the development of some global technology leaders.
Professional, patient and supportive are all words that are used to describe us. We’re also noted for our commitment to maintaining strong relationships with management right through to exit. And we are viewed as high calibre investment partners by entrepreneurial companies and their advisers. We were named UK Venture Capital Firm of the Year at the 2012 Unquote British Private Equity Awards: the third time in recent years.
Currently investing from £200 million fund
We have substantial funds available for investment: we are currently investing from the £200m SEP IV Fund. Our focus is on growth stage investments in IT, healthcare and energy. As these sectors are increasingly converging, we are looking to capitalise on this trend through our integrated investment team approach.
We enjoy the benefit of independent commercial perspectives through our own advisory board, which comprises experienced former and current executives of many world class companies such as Amazon, Cairn Energy and Sun Microsystems.
Environmental Energies £95 million Fund (EEF)
We have expanded funds available for investment by partnering with FTSE 100-company SSE plc to raise a £95 million secondary fund focused exclusively on clean tech companies. The fund has attracted investment from four blue chip financial institutions, headed by Lexington Partners – the world’s largest independent manager of secondary private equity and co-investment funds with $20 billion under management. The syndicate also comprises UK based funds Hermes GPE and F&C Private Equity, as well as Swiss-based Partners Group.
