Aquamarine and Smarter Grid Solutions make RenewableUK Energy Awards shortlist

Two SEP portfolio companies, Aquamarine Power and Smarter Grid Solutions have been nominated for the first ever RenewableUK Energy Awards. RenewableUK, the trade and professional body representing the wind, wave and tidal energy industries, will announce the winners at an awards ceremony in central London on 27th June with more than five hundred guests, including business leaders and politicians in attendance.

RenewableUK’s Director of Policy, Dr Gordon Edge, said: “The standard of nominations was extraordinarily high, which made the short listing process extremely difficult. There are so many companies, organisations and individuals working hard to build Britain’s new low-carbon economy. It’s right to recognise those who are giving us a secure supply of clean energy, creating tens of thousands of jobs and giving us long term protection against the price shocks associated with fossil fuels. These achievements deserve to be highlighted, celebrated and rewarded”.

Both companies have been shortlisted for the Product and Innovation Award which recognises a company which has invested in an innovative product or process to take forward the renewables industry.  Aquamarine has been recognised for its Oyster wave energy device and Smarter Grid Solutions for its innovative and cost-effective solutions to create greater grid capacity for renewable energy.

Gary Le Sueur, Partner at SEP commented “ It is extremely encouraging to see two of the companies within our Environmental Energies Fund being recognised for their innovation.  We feel both organisations are well placed to make a significant contribution to the UK renewable energy industry.”

The Environmental Energies Fund is a £95 million secondary fund raised by SEP in partnership with SSE plc and other investors.
