The flight search engine specialist, Skyscanner, has accelerated its international expansion, recording strong sales growth, signing new partnership deals and picking up two prestigious awards.
The company increased year-on-year revenue by 75% to £15.2m in the financial year to May 31. It signed a partnership deal with Facebook, giving the social media company’s 750 million users access to a flight search tool on Skyscanner’s Facebook page. Russian airline Aeroflot is now a partner and Skyscanner partnership’s manager Dmitry Konovalov commented: “Russia is hugely important for us – it is our second biggest market and Aeroflot obviously recognises the benefits of working with us.”
Overseas visitors to Skyscanner’s site now represent 75% of traffic; Russia accounts for more than one million visitors per month and strong growth has also been recorded in Italy, Spain and France. The company has also opened a new office in Singapore to take advantage of opportunities in the Pacific Rim.
Skyscanner CEO Gareth Williams has picked up two awards in recognition of the company’s achievements, including a Technology Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst & Young. The business was also named as the Scotland and Northern Ireland Venture Capital-Backed Management Team of the Year in the BVCA’s Portfolio Company Awards.
