Trio of SEP portfolio companies achieve Tech Track 100 ranking

Three SEP portfolio companies – Skyscanner, ControlCircle and Media Ingenuity – have featured in this year’s Sunday Times Tech Track 100 list; the list ranks the UK’s fastest-growing privately owned technology companies. SEP Managing Partner Calum Paterson said, “ We are very proud of the management teams and employees of these companies who have clearly demonstrated that innovative businesses can achieve rapid sales growth and grow market share even in a difficult economic climate.”

He added: “This year’s Tech Track 100 featured a significant number of companies which have raised venture capital or private equity in the last year. More than one-fifth or (22%) of the top 100 have attracted funding in the last 12 months, which underlines how important it is for high-growth companies to have the right funding partner to achieve their potential.”

Flight search engine company Skyscanner was ranked 19th overall and was the highest ranked online travel business. The business, founded by Gareth Williams, Barry Smith and Bonamy Grimes, has enjoyed rapid growth in domestic and international markets, delivering sales growth of more than 94% per annum over the last three financial years to £15.3 million in 2011.

Managed IT services provider ControlCircle was ranked 66th, making this the third successive year the company has earned a place in the list. ControlCircle, which was founded in 2001 by President Damian Milikins and Chief Financial Officer Simon Hancock, grew sales by 48.11% per year from £4.1 million in 2007 to £13.3 million in 2010.

Media Ingenuity appeared in 75th place, gaining a ranking for the second consecutive year after achieving sales growth of 45% per year between 2007 and 2010 when revenues reached £11 million. The company, founded in 2006 by Jonathan Hassid and Will Becker and Managing Director Adam Quint, connects the world’s largest financial services companies with thousands of customers. It is one of the largest buyers of online media in the financial services sector and also offers its own financial services products.
