Calum Paterson keynote speaker at Future of Fintech event

Calum Paterson, Managing Partner of Scottish Equity Partners and current Chair of the BVCA, delivered the keynote speech at the Future of Fintech event in Edinburgh on 29 October.

He said: “Ambitious fintech entrepreneurs in Scotland should focus on attracting the right leadership and talent as they look to scale, which will strengthen their credentials with prospective investors and increase their visibility. Access to capital should not be a constraining factor. There are active and experienced local investors, including venture firms, business angels and family offices, and the UK has the largest venture capital industry in Europe.”

The event was the finale of a competition organised by The Times Scotland, together with Royal Bank of Scotland, FWB Park Brown and Dell Technologies to identify and support the next generation of financial technology pioneers in Scotland. Seven finalists took part, each delivering a pitch to a panel of judges, competing for a prize fund totalling £125,000.

Broker Insights, a Dundee-based business connecting insurers and brokers, was winner of the Powerup Fintech award, while Trade in Space, which digitises agricultural assets using satellite images to help farmers access finance, picked up the Blue Sky Fintech award.
